Communities

Here are some communities where I have found rich engagement and learning. There are many flavors of meditation out there, I’ve no doubt you we can find a fit for you!

Unified Mindfulness

Unified Mindfulness is a system of meditation, designed by Shinzen Young, that’s easily researchable by science with clear terminology and rigorous precision around concepts and procedures. A direct result of this research and precision is that the process of learning and teaching mindfulness has been thoroughly systemized in a way that makes it accessible to anyone interested. This is one of the primary foundations of my practice, and deeply supportive.

Mary Stancavage

A few years ago Mary began to investigate the concept of living with an undefended heart. She believes this is the root of what the Buddha asks us to do in his teachings and it is now the lens through which she sees the world. How do we defend ourselves and how do we free ourselves? This has been a rich journey that continues with ever unfolding subtlety.

UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center

The Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) is a partner of the Norman Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology within the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA.

The mission of the Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) is to disseminate mindful awareness across the lifespan through education and research. Another one of my primary supports.

Meditation Coalition

The Meditation Coalition is a group of teachers, facilitators and students dedicated to providing access to meditation and Buddhist teachings for all who are interested. We belong to the communities we support and serve. We are committed to ethical behavior, social justice, and compassionate action.

The Meditation Coalition envisions joining together with other groups or individuals to hold events, retreats, series and classes to fulfill the desire to practice meditation and compassionate action in the greater Los Angeles area. We are aligned with the common cause of liberation from suffering for all beings.

Stillpoint Meditation

Stillpoint Meditation seeks to provide a moment of quiet in this hectic world, and to train practitioners to be able to do so on their own. They emphasize the importance of a personal daily meditation practice but complement this with group meditations throughout the week and ongoing classes to broaden and deepen your own journey. One-on-one guidance is also available as well as customized programs for businesses and groups.

Spirit Rock

Spirit Rock offers a breadth of programs in a variety of formats to fit anyone's schedule, needs and meditation experience — from two-hour, drop-in classes and daylong events to silent residential retreats lasting from three-days to two months and advanced practitioner programs spanning a year or more. We also offer classes online. With some exceptions, all programs are suitable for beginners and experienced students alike. To find out more about the different programs we offer, visit the Programs section of this website, or go directly to the Calendar section to search for programs by date.

InsightLA

InsightLA Meditation has been offering high-quality mindfulness and compassion practices throughout the Greater Los Angeles area and now ONLINE for almost 20 years. Mindfulness is an intentional connection with the present moment that changes how we relate to ourselves, to others and the world. They offer mindfulness classes, retreats and special events that cater to both beginning meditators and those who are looking to deepen and sustain their practice.

Aligned Mind

Brian has intensively studied embodied awareness methods at the Gurdjieff Foundation Los Angeles since 1993, Tibetan Buddhist shamatha, and vipassana practices for over thirteen years, and has completed nine week-long retreats, acquiring over 4,000 hours of both sitting and moving meditation.

Brian is passionate about translating mindfulness practices for people from diverse cultural and organizational backgrounds who are searching for inner balance, bridging the gap between science and experience, practice and everyday life.
